A prominent epidemiologist says news roughly a third of the 1438 fresh COVID-19 cases reported in Victoria on Thursday had links to grand final gatherings should come as no surprise.

“We know that with the Delta variant it can take as little as 24 hours,” Professor Adrian Esterman, Epidemiologist from the University of South Australia, told Tom Elliott.

“It’s very much enough time to pass it on.”
