A third of Daniel Andrews’ front bench live outside the electorates they represent – including Tim Pallas, who lives in Williamstown, not Werribee. 

Mr. Pallas has come under scrutiny as plans to put a youth prison in Werribee without consultation angers residents. 

Nick Economou, senior lecture of politics at Monash University, said it isn’t important these days and quite common for representatives to live outside their electorate.  

He told 3AW Breakfast it only becomes important when a ‘not in my backyard issue comes up,’ such as the prison.  

‘It runs against the notion of the local member being a representative of the locality,’ Mr. Economou says.
