The world’s most wanted drug lord, Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman, has been recaptured by Mexican security forces.

El Chapo, founder of the cartel that is responsible for at least 50% of the world’s drugs, escaped from Mexican jail in July through an elaborate tunnel network.

Arturo Fontes, who spent much of his 28 years in the FBI chasing El Chapo, told Tony Jones since Osama Bin Laden’s death, El Chapo was ‘public enemy number one.’

‘During the Calder?n Predifential administration [2006-2012], there were about 50,000 murders. He’s responsible for at least 25% of them,’ Mr Fontes said on Monday.

The United States is hoping to extradite Guzman to ensure he is held in a secure facility, but Fontes said efforts to do so may be ‘compromised’ by corruption.

‘There’s a good chance that he could have a heart attack while he’s in jail, or fall in the shower, and not be seen in the US.’
