Nine News director Darren Wick has slammed the decision to institute a no-fly zone over Melbourne’s CBD and say legal options are being considered.

Earlier today the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) sent out a notification at the request of Victoria Police grounding all aircraft over the Melbourne skyline until Sunday.

It means footage of the anti-lockdown protests will not be seen on television screens.

Mr Wick said the decision was “unprecedented”.

“To not actually see what is happening … you can’t do that,” he told Heidi Murphy on 3AW Drive.

“We have to be able to show the public what is happening, it’s not what we do, we’re not a police state, so it’s very unprecedented and it’s very uncomfortable the decision that’s been made.”

Mr Wick said the media is very supportive of police but this was done without consultation.

“We’re looking at our legal options now.

“We’re very determined to do everything we can within out power to have it lifted.”
