AMA president admits COVID-19 ‘spider-web is getting stickier’ in hospitals
The strain on Victoria’s hospital system due to COVID-19 is increasing.
There have been reports of surgery cancellations at some public hospitals due to staff or bed shortages, while a nurse at Austin Hospital told Neil Mitchell they were starting to run low on PPE.
Dr Roderick McRae, from the Australian Medical Association, said he was confident there was still plenty of PPE available, but there have been issues in getting it into hospitals.
“It’s very fair to say that the system is looking to be prepared, but the spider-web that COVID-19 is presenting us is getting stickier,” he said.
“There are a lot of moving parts in the whole system.”
