Why you should ‘release the handbrake’ with teenage kids
The author of what’s been described as a “literally life-changing” novel says parents need to put themselves in the shoes of their teenage children and not offer too much advice or guidance.
Gabrielle Williams told Tom Elliott parents could actually learn a lot from their kids.
She said while most parents had the best of intentions, applying the “handbrake” to their children’s lives wasn’t doing them any good.
“Most of the mistakes that our kids are going to make aren’t going to be dire, they are going to be things they learn from,” she said on 3AW Drive.
Gabrielle’s book is called It’s Not You, It’s Me.
