Ambulance union clarifies stance on mandatory vaccinations for paramedics
Ambulance union boss Danny Hill admits mandatory COVID-19 vaccination for paramedics may be inevitable, but says there are still many questions that need to be answered about how that will look before the union agrees to it.
Tom Elliott admits he was surprise to see the union boss quoted as being opposed to mandatory vaccinations on Friday.
Mr Hill clarified his stance on 3AW Drive.
“It may get to that (mandatory vaccination), at some point – I think it probably will – but there are still a lot of questions for the people who can’t for, say, medical reasons,” he said.
“That hasn’t been clarified yet.
“Until that’s sorted… we need to keep working on it.
“We need to see what we are agreeing to before we do.”
He said almost 90 per cent of paramedics had already been vaccinated, regardless.
“The vast majority of the workforce is getting vaccinated anyway and we are seeing them do the work by themselves, without the need for any compulsory order,” he said.
