Western Australia has tightened border restrictions with Victoria amid the state’s growing coronavirus outbreak.

Victoria will move to a “high risk” jurisdiction from 12.01am Monday September 6, which means exempt travellers will be required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test and at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine before they fly.

Only exempt travellers can enter WA from Victoria, and those who are allowed in are required to undergo testing and 14 days of self-quarantine at a suitable premises.

Exempt travellers will also be required to use the G2G pass system during their 14-day quarantine period.

The decision will make it extremely difficult for anyone to enter WA for the AFL Grand Final, with exemptions only be granted to people in essential or extreme circumstances by WA Police.

The move comes after Victoria recorded 176 new local cases of COVID-19 overnight.
