How COVID-19 vaccination rates are tracking in Victoria

Victoria’s lockdown rules won’t be eased until COVID-19 vaccination rates are boosted.

The first easing step will come when 70 per cent of eligible adults have received at least one dose of vaccine.

Further easing will come when 80 per cent of people have received one dose, and then focus will shift to double-dose rates.

Yesterday, while announcing that vaccination rates will dictate when restrictions ease, Premier Daniel Andrews said Victoria was estimated to reach the 70 per cent first dose threshold on September 23.

But the data analyst behind the COVID live website, which is widely used for tracking COVID-19 figures, says data now reveals we may get to that target a little sooner.

“I think they said about the 23rd yesterday but we had actually a really good day – 105,000 yesterday,” data analyst Anthony Macali told Neil Mitchell.

“Based on those rates the 70 per cent date is actually the 20th of September.”

Mr Macali says, on current figures, 80 per cent of eligible Victorians will have had one vaccine dose on October 6.

On average, 67,000 vaccine doses are being administered in Victoria every day.

“Were hoping with the announcements and the strong messaging yesterday that those numbers go up,” Mr Macali said.

Federally, Australia looks set to have 70 per cent of people fully-vaccinated on October 30, and 80 per cent fully vaccinated in mid-November.
