There is a shortage of doctors in regional Victoria.

One clinic in Seymour has been advertising a role for a GP for eight months. 

‘Why do young doctors not want to work in regional areas,’ Neil Mitchell questioned. 

‘I thought it would be a great area to learn the trade.’

Dr. Rosey Panelli from the Seymour Medical Clinic says some people are overwhelmed by the 14 hour days medicine entails. 

‘One of the problems for the younger doctors, they have a perception that the demands for medicine are too great,’ Dr. Panelli told Neil.

‘It disappoints me that people are afraid to tackle medicine.’  

She says despite job adverts asking for senior GPs, there isn’t a reason newer graduates can’t take on the role.
