It’s been revealed V/Line is being forced to hire taxis to transport wheelchair-bound passengers during the rail crisis.

About 20% of V/Line’s train fleet is being replaced by coaches due to wheel wearing and boom gate safety issues.

The buses are costing up to $300,000 a day.

But Gary Mitchell from Traralgon has told Neil Mitchell his wheelchair would not fit on the coach, so V/Line had to order him a taxi to Melbourne, and paid the $350 bill.

And he says similar examples are quite common.
