Rights Commissioner supports ‘advancement centres’ for Indigenous students
Tom Elliott has questioned why a Queensland university had computers reserved for Indigenous students.
Tom said students shouldn’t be separated on the basis of their race.
But Australia’s Human Rights Commissioner Tim Wilson said he supports, in principle, ‘advancement centres’ to assist students from marginalised groups.
‘Sometimes it’s practical and real,’ he said.
‘But it needs to be done in a way where it’s abundantly clear what the intention is.
‘That wasn’t the case in this example.’
