Article image for Gossip Sheet: How to become a supermodel

Quote of the week: ‘You have to have a thick skin, incredible drive and a good business head to survive and the right look,’ says Megan Gale as she joins the judging panel (announced today) for the next season  of Australia’s Next Top Model on Foxtel. Gale will bring all her glamour, style and wit to the popular show as she stands alongside host Jennifer Hawkins. The show, in its tenth season, does look for more than just beauty in the wannabe models who without fail generate their own type of  ‘I wanna be a supermodel’ drama.

Spotted: Samuel Johnson, fresh from his glorious turn as Molly, mobbed by child autograph hunters at the Luke Batty Foundation celebrity cricket match at Port Melbourne. Not all of the youngsters ( some looked about 8 years old) would have known who he was but he kept on smiling and kept on signing. He is quite the great guy.

TV presenter Shura Taft is in the throes of planning a romantic getaway, otherwise known as a honeymoon. Taft, looking super trim ahead of his nuptials in April, is looking forward to the wedding at the delightful Circa. He and his bride-to-be are chuffed to be marrying in St Kilda – a place they love to hang out in. The honeymoon is expected to see the happy couple discover some remote beaches in Southern Italy amongst other romantic locations.

Former newsreader Mal Walden, a couple of years older than his mate Channel 9 newsreader Peter Hitchener, was seen giving a huge happy 70th birthday hug to Hitch at a gorgeous afternoon party at the 9 Studios. Walden is still working on his autobiography. ‘Oh, it could be ready by the middle of year,’ he told me hopefully, adding, ‘ there’s been quite a bit of to and fro. It has been 60 years in the making.’

You may notice a teal hue today across parts of Melbourne. Crown is amongst the big companies to support Ovarian Cancer Day, with every staff member wearing a teal ribbon for the cause. An afternoon tea held at The Waiting Room served delicious delicacies while guests were urged to consider the anguish and fear associated with the cancer and the need to research an early detection test.

Former swimmer Nicole Livingstone, who attended the aforementioned afternoon tea as Patron of Ovarian Cancer Australia, isn’t resting on her laurels waiting for her commentating commitments at the Rio Olympics. She is wrangling about 300 swimming students each week at swim school in Melbourne. Some of the parents have spotted the star and all-round lovely lady when she jumps in the pool with the kids. ‘Ooh, look,’ the parents nudge their kids, ‘ she used to be a champion swimmer.’

Free tickets. Free tickets. Free tickets at IMAX  if you were born on February 29. Yep, free tickets to a host of films on the actual leap year date. You get to bring a mate for free too. It even includes the Star Wars film and Deadpool. Photo ID or birth certificate required. But wait there’s more. You can watch every screening across the day. That’s nine screenings in total. Wow.

‘Get into our 42nd year of marriage with no injury,’ says Bert Newton, with Patti by his side, as he reflects on what he’d like for 2016. Good health and good luck to the man who’s entertained us for decades. Logies host anyone?

Charity of the week: Elie Eid will walk from Albury to Melbourne to raise funds for Save Our Sons – a charity he established in 2008 .
