Greens leader Richard Di Natale and 3AW Drive host Tom Elliott have clashed over Australia’s asylum policy.

Mr Di Natale has called on Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to ‘show a little compassion’ and not send a group of asylum seekers – including 37 babies (some born in Australia) – to Nauru.

Most of the children and their families were brought to Australia for medical treatment but will be sent to Nauru as early as next week for offshore processing.

‘Here’s an opportunity just to show a little bit of compassion, just to this small group,’ Mr Di Natale said during his regular slot on 3AW Drive.

‘Now that’s not going to do anything, in terms of driving people to come here.’

Tom Elliott: ‘Well, I’m not sure about that?’

Things got interesting from there.
