Calls to cut road tolls during work on Bolte Bridge and West Gate Freeway
The State Government has all but ruled out scrapping tolls for motorists stuck in traffic on the West Gate and Tullamarine freeways.
Frustrations continue for motorists heading in from the west on day two of the 18-month Bolte Bridge widening works.
Two truck breakdowns and a car rollover added to the problems on Thursday morning.
Roads Minister Luke Donnellan told Neil Mitchell measures like removing tolls sounded good in theory, but could actually make problems worse.
‘The issue with taking tolls off is that we might actually find more cars coming onto the freeway,’ Mr Donnellan said on 3AW Mornings.
‘There’s enormous disruption and I understand the frustration.
‘I’m sure many people would love to literally strangle me, so to speak.
‘But let’s be honest ? we need to undertake this work.’
He also ruled out adding more train services for those out west.
‘There aren’t any extra trains,’ he said.
