A push to lower the driving age in Victoria to 17 is being considered by a parliamentary inquiry.

Upper House member James Purcell wants the driving age lowered to help young people, particularly those living in the country, get to school and work.

The inquiry has called for submissions from the public this morning.

Mr Purcell says Victoria should be in line with other states.

‘We are the only state that doesn’t drive at 17,’ Mr Purcell told Neil Mitchell.

‘We believe that Victorian 17-year-olds are as responsible as the rest of the country.’
