Collisions between drivers and kangaroos have surged in recent years and experts believe it’s largely due to urban sprawl into rural areas.

Sue Kirwin, from Help for Wildlife, told 3AW Breakfast that urban sprawl often doesn’t accommodate for wildlife in the area that’s being developed.

‘They’re building in pockets where there’s a lot of wildlife,’ she said. ‘There’s no consideration to ensure there’s wildlife corridors, so they can move away from those areas.’

?Ms. Kirwin said that drivers often won’t know what to do if they do hit a kangaroo, and that it was a criminal offence not to report an animal that had been hit.
