A new levy may be introduced to pay for changes designed to help domestic violence sufferers.

Daniel Andrews has written a ‘blank cheque’ accepting all 227 recommendations made by the Royal Commission.

The recommendations include setting up new safe houses and providing extra police and legal services to domestic violence victims.

Neil Mitchell says – ‘Domestic violence is disgusting, it’s insidious’ and spoke with some key figures on what these changes mean and if we can afford it.

Fiona McCormack from Domestic Violence Victoria was unsure of the cost but puts it simply –  ‘How can we afford not to?’.

Neil spoke with Ron Iddles from the Police Association who says it could cost at least $100 million.

The recommendations would see Victoria Police become a major stakeholder in the states domestic violence response, potentially requiring the appointment of more than 500 new officers.

Treasurer Tim Pallas says the government will find the money –  but no decisions on a new tax or levy have been made. Are you willing to pay for it?
