This morning Ross and John spoke to NASA’s Missions Operations Manager, Alice Bowman about the New Horizons spacecraft.

The mission is the first to the Pluto System and the ‘mysterious’ Kuiper Belt ? a relic of the solar system.

Sending a spacecraft on this long journey is helping to answer basic questions about the surface properties, geology, interior makeup and atmospheres pf Pluto and the region. 

We learnt Pluto was 4.8 billion kilometres away from earth and it takes command five hours to reach the planet.
