Knife-wielding intruders have left the front door of a Bulleen home hanging off its hinges following an aggravated home invasion.

Three offenders smashed their way into home in Lilian Street around 1am.

The trio assaulted a male inside the home, then fled.

The 34-year-old victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the attack.

He has been taken to hospital.

Police are investigating whether the invaders and residents are known to each other.
