Moorabool Council defends push for rate rises above the rate of inflation
Moorabool Council has defended its push for rate rises above the rate of inflation.
On Thursday, Shane called 3AW Drive to say the council has given its ratepayers the choice of how high rates should rise.
The catch? The lowest option to choose from was the rate of inflation, which is supposed to be the maximum rise allowed.
But the council’s CEO Rob Croxford told Tom Elliott on Friday that it truly needs a higher rise.
‘Over the next ten years, with those sorts of CPI increases, the council won’t be able to deliver the services it currently does,’ Mr Croxford said.
But when making a final decision on the rise, Mr Croxford said the council would ‘very strongly’ factor in community feedback.
