Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton has urged Victorians not to take matters into their own hands if confronted by APEX gang members.

Fired-up 3AW Mornings caller Michael told Mr Ashton he’d have no hesitation using his gun to protect his family, should his home be invaded.

Several other callers this week have suggested they’d take similar action.

But the chief of police says people should be locking their doors in the first place and violence isn’t the answer.

‘We don’t want people taking actions that is going to put their safety at risk,’ Mr Ashton said on 3AW Mornings.
