‘Fake’ undercover police car terrorising people in Melbourne’s east
UPDATE: Three men have been arrested and charged following frightening reports of armed men impersonating police while attempting to steal cars across Melbourne.
A man who had a rifle pointed at him after being stopped by a fake ‘undercover’ police car has described the incident as terrifying.
Patrick Tilley was a passenger in his friend’s car on Monday night when it was ‘cut off’ erratically by a black Holden Commodore with red and blue sirens in Wantirna South around 10.30pm.
‘Before we knew it, a man had got out of the car with a rifle and started coming towards us,’ he told Neil Mitchell.
‘It was very, very terrifying.’

Police have since confirmed three men had been taken into custody.
It’s been revealed there were similar attacks in South Yarra and Ferntree Gully on the same night.
The man have been charged with a range of different offences, including armed robbery, theft of a car, possession of the drug ice and impersonating police.
