Clive Palmer backs recommendation to send Queensland Nickel into liquidation
Clive Palmer says he takes no responsibility for the demise of his nickel refinery, with administrators recommending it go into liquidation.
Creditors will meet next week to vote on the recommendation for Queensland Nickel.
It would allow sacked workers to access a federal scheme to claim some of their unpaid entitlements.
Mr Palmer told 3AW Mornings that plunging nickel prices were behind the company’s downfall.
He said it didn’t consider himself accountable.
‘No, I don’t,’ Mr Palmer said during an at time bizarre interview on 3AW.
‘The facts are on the record.
‘In 2009, the nickel price was $7.50 and BHP was going to close the plant and today it’s $3.50.
‘We kept the plant running for another seven years and invested $4 billion in North Queensland over that period of time.
‘Despite me controlling a lot of things, being Dr Evil, if you like, I don’t control the world’s international nickel price.’
It follows several serious accusations thrown at Mr Palmer on the ABC’s 4Corners program on Monday night.
‘I saw it. I thought it was a comedy show,’ Mr Palmer said.
‘You couldn’t regard it as being serious.’
