A journalist who received multiple death threats from Australia’s most senior Islamic State operative says the slain Melbourne jihadi won’t be missed.

Neil Prakash, who was born in Victoria, was killed last Friday, along with about a dozen fighters in the Iraqi city of Mosul.

In a slick ISIL propaganda video released last year, Prakash praised Melbourne terror suspect Numan Haider who attacked two police officers in Endeavour Hills before being shot dead.

He was seen as a key recruiter for Islamic State in Australia.

Paul Maley from The Australian had several dealings with Prakash and said he didn’t want to ‘revel’ in his death.

‘But the world and certainly Australia is a safer place now,’ he explained.

Mr Maley said he’d be in contact with Prakash over the internet, which led to the terrorist ordering hits on his life after negative stories.

‘He sought to have me beheaded on one occasion, which was sobering, to say the least,’ he said.
