It’s monotonous, but it’s working for North Melbourne
It is well publicised that North Melbourne’s list is one of the oldest in the AFL. This weekend, one of their veteran stars will run out for his 300th game.
Drew Petrie began at the club in 2001 and he is enjoying the Kangaroos success so far this season, which he has been a pivotal part of.
Jarrad Waite, Brent Harvey and himself are a few of the ‘older’ players (33+) and Petrie has credited a ‘monotonous’ exercise for their sustained performance.?
The program focuses on the core muscle groups, which the team spends an hour a day working on.
‘It’s probably a little bit different to what you’d see at other clubs, but its working for us,’ Petrie told Sports Today.
‘I think you’re seeing a lot of our blokes 30 plus amongst our best each week, purely on the back of what’s been implemented.’
?The Kangaroos are yet to lose a game this season, but Petrie is not looking too far ahead, knowing there is still a long way to go.
Hawthorn, Geelong, West Coast, Sydney and GWS are still ahead for North Melbourne.
‘Once we get to round 11 or 12 then I reckon it’s probably more reasonable to judge what the march to September might look like.’
Petrie’s 300th game this weekend is against St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.
