Sydney gun Tom Papley has been charged with staging.

He has been handed a $750 fine ($500 with an early plea) following the controversial incident against Collingwood on Thursday night.

Papley flew forward after copping what looked minor contact from Collingwood defender Brayden Maynard.

He was awarded a free kick at the time, which handed him a crucial shot at goal.

He missed.

Collingwood won the game by nine points.
