Daniel Andrews denies ‘freezing’ Jane Garrett out of firefighter negotiations
Premier Daniel Andrews has denied ‘freezing out’ Emergency Services Minister Jane Garrett of negotiations to try and resolve the ongoing dispute with Victoria’s firefighters.
After a private meeting with union state secretary Peter Marshall, Mr Andrews is believed to be pushing for a deal which would give the union the power to veto management decisions.
The case is back before the Fair Work Commission. The CFA board says it will oppose the consultation clause.
Speaking with Neil Mitchell, Mr Andrews refused to say whether he backed that position.
‘I respect the independent umpire and I think we’ll get the best outcome by letting them adjudicate,’ he said on 3AW Mornings.
