3AW EXCLUSIVE: Why Dr Anthony Fauci can’t understand COVID vaccine apprehension
The world’s most well-known infectious diseases expert has told 3AW he still can’t comprehend why there is apprehension about COVID vaccines.
Dr Anthony Fauci, Joe Biden’s chief medical adviser, joined 3AW Drive for an Australian exclusive on Wednesday.
It comes after Prime Minister Anthony Albanese backed state government calls to give more Australians access to a fourth COVID vaccine dose.
Unsurprisingly, it’s already sparked backlash from a section of the community.
“That is really very difficult for me to understand,” Dr Fauci told Shane McInnes, who is filling in for Tom Elliott as host of 3AW Drive.

“If you look at the data, the data clearly shows an extraordinarily impressive difference between unvaccinated vs vaccinated, vaccinated without dose vs vaccinated with a boost, vaccinated with one boost vs vaccinated with two boosts, and it’s an incremental decrease in risk.
“The more you get vaccinated, the risk of hospitalisation and death dramatically diminishes.”
Dr Fauci will speak with the Australian Medical Association later this month.
He said every country had “suffered considerably” over the past two years, but Australia had done a “very good job” at limiting the damage of the virus.
