3AW Drive presenter Heidi Murphy, who’s filling in for Tom Elliott this week, says there needs to be more transparency regarding the costings for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Premier Daniel Andrews confirmed the Games would be coming to regional Victoria in four years time, and that they’ll be based out of four regional hubs – Bendigo, Ballarat, Geelong and Gippsland.

However Heidi says there’s already been political spin instead of detail.

“My question, since I first heard we were pitching for these Games, remains my question today,” She said on 3AW Drive.

“What is it going to cost us?

“I don’t have an answer, you don’t have an answer, all the Premier would say today is there will be some detailing in next months budget”.

Craig Phillips, CEO of Commonwealth Games Australia, said most of the venues were “Games ready”.

“There are number that might require some Games overlay, that comes with hosting any major event really,” he told Heidi Murphy on 3AW Drive.

“But the thing about this, they’re not being upgraded for the Games, they’re being upgraded for future use in those communities.”
