Pauline Hanson has worn a burqa in the Senate, prompting widespread criticism and an emotional takedown from Attorney General George Brandis.

The One Nation leader arrived at question time dressed in full Muslim garb on Thursday before removing it to once again call for its ban in Australia.

In his response, Mr Brandis was reduced to tears as he slammed Ms Hanson’s actions.

“I am not going to pretend to ignore this stunt,” he said.

“I would caution you and counsel you, with respect, to be very, very careful of the offence you may do to the religious sensibilities of other Australians.

“To ridicule that community, to drive it into a corner, to mock its religious garments is an appalling thing to do.”

The Liberal Senator’s speech drew a standing ovation from many in the house, particularly from Labor and the Greens.
