Richmond supervised injecting room to remain open permanently

The North Richmond safe injecting room is set to become permanent.

The Andrews government will today introduce legislation to establish it as an ongoing service.

In a statement announcing the change, the government says an independent review found the trial saved 63 lives and successfully managed almost 6000 overdoses.

An independent review panel made 10 recommendations on the facility, and Premier Daniel Andrews said all but one have been accepted.
