Malcolm Turnbull hits out at those opposed to Australia Day
The Prime Minister has shot down any concerns about the future of Australia Day, questioning the motives of those who want it moved from January 26.
Speaking with Neil Mitchell, Malcolm Turnbull dismissed the idea as a “Labor, Left, Green fringe” sentiment.
“I don’t think this has got much momentum,” Mr Turnbull said on 3AW Mornings.
“I think the vast majority of Australians are as horrified as you and I are at the thought of re-writing history and editing statues and deleting Australia Day.
“What are these people thinking? This is the greatest country in the world. Our achievement is so remarkable.
“We should be so proud of Australia and its history and on Australia Day we celebrate all of our achievements.
“Every Australia Day ceremony begins with a welcome to country and recognition of the oldest continuous human civilisation on earth and ends with a baby in the arms of a migrant mother, becoming an Australian citizen.
“How good is that?”
