Major fire breaks out at recycling facility in Melbourne’s west
Fire crews have spent much of the night battling a large fire at a recycling facility in Melbourne’s north.
The blaze broke out at the recycling facility on Dohertys Road in Laverton North at about 10.30pm, sending large plumes of smoke over the surrounding area.
Witnesses described seeing flames several metres high.
It took dozens of firefighters more than three and a half hours to bring the blaze under control.
Fire crews remain on scene this morning.
While the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, police say it is not being treated as suspicious.
A community information notice is in place for smoke in Deer Park, Derrimut, Laverton North, Ravenhall, Sunshine West and Truganina.
